Top 10 Restaurants in Cherry Creek (2026)

We walked the district block by block — First Avenue to Sixth, University to Steele — confirming which dining rooms are still open, how long each has actually held its address, and which of them survive on cooking rather than on foot traffic from the mall.

The hard part about ranking restaurants in Cherry Creek is that the real estate keeps rewriting the list for you. Elway's held a corner of the Cherry Creek Shopping Center for twenty years and appeared on essentially every Denver dining guide worth reading, and it closed anyway on August 31, 2024 — not because the kitchen slipped, but because a billion-dollar redevelopment called Cherry Creek West needed the block. The building was demolished. In a district where a lease is worth more than a reputation, longevity stops being a soft signal and becomes the hardest evidence there is.

So that is what we weighted. There is no license lookup that settles whether a kitchen is good, but there are facts that can be checked: how many years a restaurant has actually held its Cherry Creek address, whether it has drawn recognition from bodies that do not sell it — the MICHELIN Guide, which began covering Colorado in 2023, the James Beard Foundation, Wine Spectator — and what the last twelve months of reviews say rather than what a ten-year average says. We also read the Denver Department of Public Health & Environment's inspection records, which are public and searchable for every licensed food establishment in the city, and we confirmed a current street address inside the district for all ten. Two well-reviewed rooms were cut for sitting outside it.

One inclusion rule shaped the result more than any other: a restaurant had to have been open for at least a full year under its current ownership. That keeps the ranking about consistency rather than about whichever opening the city is talking about this month. Nobody applied for a spot, nobody paid for one, and no restaurant was told in advance that it was being evaluated.

Barolo Grill

3030 East Sixth Avenue · Cherry Creek, Denver
Editor's Choice MICHELIN Guide Since 1992

Barolo Grill has served northern Italian food on Sixth Avenue since 1992, which makes it the longest-running fine-dining room in Cherry Creek by a wide margin and the most decorated restaurant in this ranking. Blair Taylor opened it; Ryan Fletter started working the floor in 1994, left for California, came back in 2003, and bought the restaurant from Taylor in 2015. That is a thirty-year continuity of the same person in the same dining room — the rarest thing on this list.

The credentials are unusually specific, and all of them come from outside the building. Barolo Grill carries an entry in the MICHELIN Guide's Colorado selection and has been awarded a MICHELIN Guide Colorado Sommelier Award for its wine program. Wine Spectator has named its list a Grand Award winner for a seventh consecutive year — a tier the magazine gives to a few dozen restaurants worldwide, and the only one in Denver. In March 2026 Fletter was named a James Beard Award finalist for Outstanding Professional in Beverage Service. The cellar runs past 2,000 bottles, the staff still travels to Italy annually, and the kitchen serves dinner only, Tuesday through Saturday.

What to Know
Northern Italian cooking drawn from Piedmont, Tuscany, and the Veneto, with a seasonal five-course tasting menu alongside the à la carte list. The wine program is the reason most people book. Closed Sunday and Monday — the single most commonly botched detail about this restaurant.
Hours & Reservations
Dinner Tuesday through Saturday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., to 10:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Reservations through the restaurant's own booking system and strongly advised; 485 Yelp reviews as of August 2026.

The Cherry Cricket

2641 East 2nd Avenue · Cherry Creek North, Denver
Since 1945 3,500+ Reviews

Eighty years in the most expensive retail district in Denver is not a coincidence. Mary Zimmerman opened the bar in 1945 out of her house on the south side of Second Avenue, feeding truck drivers and the crews working the city dump that stood where the Cherry Creek Shopping Center now sits. Lloyd Page bought it in 1950 and gave it the name it still carries; the room moved across Second Avenue in 1951 and has not moved since. Burgers became the point in 1990, when Eli McGuire took it over and rebuilt the menu around them.

It has survived a great deal, including a kitchen fire just before Thanksgiving 2016 that closed it for five months. It is the only restaurant in this ranking that a Denver family can afford weekly and the only one that has outlasted the mall across the street twice over. There are now sibling rooms downtown on Blake Street, in Littleton, and in Broomfield, but this is the original address. No reservations — the Cricket runs a digital waitlist you can join before leaving home, which on a Friday evening is the difference between eating and waiting.

What to Know
Burgers with a famously long list of toppings, green chile, and a full bar in a low-lit room that has resisted renovation on purpose. Cash-friendly, loud, and the least formal address on this list. Patio seating in season.
Hours & Reservations
Open daily. No reservations — join the waitlist through the restaurant's site before you drive over. Peak weekend evenings and any Broncos or Nuggets game night run long waits.

Matsuhisa Denver

98 Steele Street · Cherry Creek, Denver
Ten Years in Denver Since 2016

Nobu Matsuhisa opened his Denver room at Steele Street and East First Avenue in April 2016, his third Colorado restaurant after Aspen and Vail. A decade later it is still the most serious Japanese kitchen in the district and the one that draws people into Cherry Creek from outside it. The restaurant marked its tenth anniversary this year with a party the chef attended in person, alongside roughly 250 guests including Mayor Mike Johnston.

The menu is the one Matsuhisa built his career on — classical Tokyo training crossed with the years he spent cooking in Peru and Argentina, which is why the yellowtail arrives with jalapeño and the miso is on black cod. Ten years is not eighty, but in a district that has turned over almost completely since 2016, a decade of an internationally scrutinized name keeping its standards in one Denver dining room is a meaningful record. Book ahead; the sushi counter goes first.

What to Know
Japanese cooking with Peruvian influence, an extensive sake and wine list, and a sushi counter that seats a limited number. Located in the Steele Creek building at the corner of Steele Street and East First Avenue. The most expensive room in this ranking.
Hours & Reservations
Dinner nightly; reservations available through the restaurant's site and strongly recommended for weekend seatings and for the sushi counter. 425 Yelp reviews as of August 2026.

Alteño

249 Clayton Street · inside the Clayton Hotel & Members Club, Cherry Creek North
MICHELIN Guide Since March 2025

Alteño is the newest restaurant in this ranking and the only one admitted on the strength of recognition rather than tenure. Johnny Curiel opened it on Clayton Street in March 2025 as his fourth concept, after Alma Fonda Fina in LoHi, Cozobi Fonda Fina in Boulder, and Mezcaleria Alma. Alma Fonda Fina holds a MICHELIN star; Alteño itself carries a listing in the MICHELIN Guide's Colorado selection as a recommended restaurant, which is inspectors saying the cooking is worth naming rather than awarding it a star. Both facts are worth stating precisely, because they are routinely blurred together in Cherry Creek marketing.

The cooking is an argument about Los Altos de Jalisco, where Curiel's father is from — moles built over long cooking, open-flame work, seafood, and an agave program that runs past tequila into raicilla and mezcal. At 94 indoor seats plus a patio it is the largest room Curiel operates, and it sits inside a private members' club, which does not restrict restaurant reservations but does explain the door. It is also the hardest table in the district to get; callers report dates offered as far as two months out.

What to Know
Jalisco-inspired fine dining from chef Johnny Curiel of Curiel Hospitality. Agave-forward bar with an in-house sommelier. Located inside the Clayton Hotel & Members Club — the restaurant is open to the public despite the club address.
Hours & Reservations
Dinner nightly from 3:00 p.m., later on Friday and Saturday. Reservations through OpenTable and effectively mandatory — the book opens well ahead and fills. 87 Yelp reviews as of 2026, reflecting how recently it opened rather than how it is regarded.

Cucina Colore

3041 East Third Avenue · Cherry Creek North, Denver
30+ Years Family Owned

Cucina Colore has been family owned and operated on Third Avenue for more than thirty years, which puts it second only to the Cherry Cricket among the independents in this district. It is the restaurant Cherry Creek residents name when asked where they actually eat, as distinct from where they take visitors — a distinction that matters more in this neighborhood than in any other in Denver.

The kitchen's original claim was a wood-fired oven imported from Naples, the first of its kind in the city, and pizza out of it is still the reason to sit on the patio. The rest of the menu is pasta-forward Italian-American cooking of the sort that does not chase trends, which is precisely why the room has outlasted three decades of far more fashionable neighbors. With 560 Yelp reviews accumulated over that span and no meaningful dip in recent sentiment, it is one of the steadiest records on this list.

What to Know
Italian-American cooking with wood-fired pizza from a Naples-built oven, house pastas, and one of the better sidewalk patios on Third Avenue. Family owned and operated since the early 1990s. Lunch and dinner daily.
Hours & Reservations
Open seven days for lunch and dinner; the kitchen closes earlier on Sunday. Reservations accepted — call 303-393-6917. Hours have shifted more than once in recent years, so confirm before you drive over.

Little Ollie's

2364 East Third Avenue · Cherry Creek North, Denver
Since 1997 461 Reviews

Little Ollie's has been Cherry Creek's Chinese restaurant since 1997, which is coming up on thirty years at the west end of Third Avenue. Neighborhood restaurants of this kind rarely survive a district's gentrification; this one did it by being genuinely good at a wide brief — wok cooking, hand-folded dim sum, and a sushi list that is better than it has any obligation to be.

The room reads as three things at once: a casual dining room for a weeknight, a cocktail lounge that has been quietly modernized, and one of the better patios in the neighborhood for an afternoon that runs long. With 461 Yelp reviews across nearly three decades and consistent recent sentiment, it is the most reliable moderate-price table in Cherry Creek North and the one most likely to seat you without a plan.

What to Know
Chinese cooking with hand-folded dim sum, sushi and sashimi, a modern cocktail lounge, and a well-regarded patio. Delivery and takeout available. Among the more affordable sit-down options inside the district.
Hours & Reservations
Lunch and dinner; reservations accepted through the restaurant's site and OpenTable. Walk-in odds are better here than almost anywhere else on this list.

Le Bilboquet

299 St. Paul Street · the St. Paul Collection, Cherry Creek North
Since 2019 NYC Lineage 1986

Le Bilboquet began on Manhattan's Upper East Side in 1986 and opened its Denver room — the brand's fifth — on St. Paul Street in September 2019, in a 6,000-square-foot space in the St. Paul Collection. Seven years in, it has done the thing imported restaurants usually fail to do: it has become a Cherry Creek restaurant rather than a New York restaurant operating in Denver.

The cooking is deliberately unadventurous French bistro — steak frites, mussels, French onion soup, tartare, the Cajun chicken the New York room made its name on — executed properly and priced accordingly. Reviews split more here than anywhere else on this list, and the split is consistent: the food draws praise, the bill and occasionally the service draw complaints. That is worth knowing before you book. Go for a proper French dinner in a room that takes itself seriously, and go with the price in mind.

What to Know
Classic French bistro cooking with a bar and brunch service, in a large room with a fireplace. Fifth location of a brand founded in New York in 1986. Expect New York pricing; several reviewers say so directly.
Hours & Reservations
Open daily — noon to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, to 10:00 p.m. Friday, and from 11:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Reservations through OpenTable. 252 Yelp reviews as of July 2026.

Quality Italian

241 Columbine Street · Cherry Creek North, between 2nd and 3rd Avenue
Since 2017 741 Reviews

Quality Italian arrived on Columbine Street in early 2017 as the Denver outpost of the New York group, and it has held the address for nine years — long enough in this district to count. The concept is an Italian-American chophouse with the tableside theater of the genre intact: house-made pasta, dry-aged steaks, and a dining room built for an occasion rather than a weeknight.

It has accumulated 741 Yelp reviews, the third-highest count in this ranking, which for a room of its price point means genuine volume rather than a narrow following. The weekend brunch service is the underused part of the operation — the same kitchen, a fraction of the competition for a table. Book dinner ahead; brunch is meaningfully easier.

What to Know
Modern Italian-American steakhouse from the Quality Branded group, with house-made pasta, dry-aged beef, a large bar, and private event space. One of the larger dining rooms in Cherry Creek North.
Hours & Reservations
Dinner Sunday and Monday 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. Brunch Saturday and Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Reservations at 303-532-8888 or through the restaurant's site.

Hillstone

303 Josephine Street · Cherry Creek, Denver
774 Reviews Group Founded 1977

Hillstone is the least surprising restaurant in Cherry Creek and, by a defensible reading of the evidence, one of the most consistent. The group's first restaurant opened in Houston in 1977 and the operating model has barely changed since: a short menu executed to an exacting internal standard, a dining room that looks the same in Denver as it does in Santa Monica, and staff trained to a degree that is unusual in casual American dining.

The Josephine Street room has drawn 774 Yelp reviews, the second-highest count in this ranking, with recent sentiment holding steady. What separates Hillstone from the other multi-city operators here is its reservation policy, which is genuinely idiosyncratic and worth knowing in advance: the restaurant states a preference for parties of two, warns that availability for three or more may be limited, and welcomes walk-in couples. Show up as a table of six without calling and the answer is likely no.

What to Know
Upscale American cooking across a deliberately short menu, with a wood-fired kitchen, a sushi component, and steakhouse fundamentals. Part of the Hillstone Restaurant Group, whose first room opened in Houston in 1977.
Hours & Reservations
Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Monday through Thursday to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday to 10:00 p.m. The restaurant prefers parties of two; availability for three or more is limited. Call 303-333-4688 before planning a large table.

Blue Island Oyster Bar and Seafood

2625 East 2nd Avenue · Cherry Creek North, Denver
Since 2015 866 Reviews

Blue Island opened on Second Avenue in 2015 on a premise that is unusual enough to check: the restaurant is tied directly to a working shellfish farm. Blue Island Shellfish Farms operates in Long Island's Great South Bay, and oysters pulled there in the morning are on the bar in Cherry Creek by dinner. The Denver operation is run by Shucking Good Hospitality, whose owner Sean Huggard is a chef and oyster buyer, in partnership with farm founder Chris Quartuccio.

That supply chain is the whole argument, and eleven years of it has produced 866 Yelp reviews — the highest count in this ranking outside the Cherry Cricket — with recent sentiment consistently praising freshness and value. A second room opened in Lone Tree. The daily happy hour, which runs from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. and all afternoon on Sunday, is the most economical way to eat serious raw bar in Cherry Creek, and it is the reason this room stays full at hours when its neighbors are empty.

What to Know
Dock-to-dish seafood and raw bar sourced from the operator's own Blue Island Shellfish Farms in Long Island, New York. Seafood flown in daily. Second Colorado location in Lone Tree. Locally owned by Shucking Good Hospitality.
Hours & Reservations
Sunday through Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday to 10:00 p.m. Happy hour daily 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Reservations accepted; call 303-333-2462.

Frequently Asked Questions: Restaurants in Cherry Creek

Which Cherry Creek restaurants are in the MICHELIN Guide?

Two restaurants on this list carry MICHELIN Guide Colorado entries: Barolo Grill on East Sixth Avenue and Alteño on Clayton Street. Both are listed as recommended restaurants rather than starred ones — inspectors visited and judged the cooking worth naming, which is a real distinction but not a star. Barolo Grill has additionally been given a MICHELIN Guide Colorado Sommelier Award for its wine program. Alteño's chef, Johnny Curiel, holds a MICHELIN star at Alma Fonda Fina in LoHi, not at Alteño; the two facts are frequently blurred together in local marketing and are worth keeping straight. The Guide began covering Colorado in 2023 and its selection skews toward dinner service, so absence from it says less about a restaurant than presence in it does. You can verify any listing on the Guide's own site, linked in Sources & References below.

Which restaurant in Cherry Creek has been open the longest?

The Cherry Cricket, by a very wide margin. Mary Zimmerman opened it in 1945 out of her house on the south side of Second Avenue, serving truck drivers and workers from the city dump that occupied the land where the Cherry Creek Shopping Center now stands. Lloyd Page bought it in 1950 and renamed it; it moved across Second Avenue in 1951 and has been at 2641 East 2nd Avenue since. That is eighty years at one corner. After the Cricket, the district's longest-tenured rooms are Barolo Grill, open on Sixth Avenue since 1992; Cucina Colore, family owned on Third Avenue for more than thirty years; and Little Ollie's, serving Cherry Creek North since 1997. Everything else in this ranking has been in place for a decade or less.

How far in advance do you need reservations in Cherry Creek?

It varies more than in any other Denver dining district, and getting it wrong costs you the evening. Alteño is the hardest table — callers report being offered dates as much as two months out. Barolo Grill and Matsuhisa should be booked at least a week ahead for a weekend seating, and Barolo is closed Sunday and Monday, which trips up more people than any other detail in this ranking. Quality Italian and Le Bilboquet generally take a few days' notice for dinner and are much easier at weekend brunch. Hillstone is the outlier: it states a preference for parties of two, limits availability for three or more, and welcomes walk-in couples — call before planning a large table there. The Cherry Cricket takes no reservations at all and runs a digital waitlist you can join before leaving home.

How do I check a Cherry Creek restaurant's health inspection record?

The Denver Department of Public Health & Environment inspects every licensed food establishment in the city and publishes the results. Search by restaurant name or address at denvergov.org/restaurantinspections, linked in Sources & References below, to see up to four years of history including individual violation descriptions. Inspection frequency ranges from roughly every six months to every two years depending on how complex and high-risk the operation is, so a restaurant with a thin record is not necessarily a restaurant with a clean one. Read the file as a pattern rather than a verdict: a single flagged item on one visit is ordinary in a working kitchen, while repeated critical violations across multiple inspections is the signal worth acting on. Every restaurant in this ranking had its record reviewed before inclusion.

Why aren't Elway's or Uchiko on this list?

Elway's Cherry Creek closed on August 31, 2024 after twenty years at 2500 East 1st Avenue, and the building was subsequently demolished to make way for the Cherry Creek West redevelopment. Its owners have said they are looking for another location, but there is currently no Cherry Creek room to rank — a useful reminder that in this district a restaurant's biggest risk is often its landlord rather than its kitchen. Uchiko, the Hai Hospitality restaurant at 299 Fillmore Street, is a different case: it opened on February 17, 2026 and is genuinely well regarded, but it falls under the rule we applied to every candidate — a restaurant must have operated for at least a full year under its current ownership to be ranked on consistency. We expect to reconsider it at the next revision. Alteño, which opened in March 2025, is the newest restaurant that cleared the bar.

How to Use This List

Rank order here weights evidence rather than taste — years actually held at a Cherry Creek address, recognition from bodies that do not sell it, and what the most recent reviews say rather than what a ten-year average says. All ten cleared the same bar: a confirmed street address inside the district, a public health inspection record we read, at least a full year under current ownership, and a live phone or booking channel we tested. But the best restaurant on this list for a two-hour anniversary dinner is not the best one for a Tuesday with two kids and a parking meter running.

Read the hours and reservation notes before you read the menus. Cherry Creek's dining rooms change hours, close on days you would not expect, and in at least one case disappear entirely for reasons that have nothing to do with the cooking — so call ahead. Parking is paid garage or metered street across nearly the whole district; budget for it.

We revisit this ranking as the district moves, and it moves faster than most. If you have eaten at one of these recently — well or badly — or want a Cherry Creek room put in front of us, the form below is the place.
